Today we went on a field trip to Kelowna. Our first stop was the Military Museum. We saw military weapons, journals, military rooms, and more. After we headed to the McMillan Pumpkin Patch. We went on a pumpkin tour, walked through a corn maze, and used the pumpkin slingshot. At the end of our tour we received a pumpkin that we will carve tomorrow at school. We had a very fun filled day!
Some of the group outside of the museum.
Outside the Museum there was a huge yard covered with leaves. The kids were so excited to play in the leaves especially since we are so used to pine needles!
I think the leaves might have been the highlight of the whole trip haha.
Grizz was shown a military gas mask.
Lewis shows off an ammunition holder for the soldiers. This pack had 10 bullets in each pouch and there were 9 holders. The belt weighed an incredible amount. (Bonus Question: How many bullets were they carrying on them?)
Alex was observing a Scottish military hat.
The students were shown the various types of weapons used during the war. The side glass shows the swords and the glass behind shows the guns.
A sign in the glass case.
Comparing life for soldiers ashore and afloat. How life afloat was so rough with the smells, being stranded on a boat for several week, and tossing and turning lifestyle. When life ashore they were given a bunk bed with more space and were able to have free time away from the base camp.
This room is what a soldier living afloat might look like.

An amazing newspaper archived at the Museum portraying the perspective of a child during the war in 1940. I found the picture to really embody the emotional toll war would really have on a family.
The boys getting to touch the military artifacts and test them out. The boys were very surprised how much everything weighed. They were also very fascinated with the bullets and how big they were.
Luca trying on the gas mask. His breathing was difficult and the mask kept getting foggy. These are some things that soldiers probably struggled with as well.
Adam showing off a grenade and a bullet.
Grizz loved holding the grenade. He didn't want to leave it at the Museum.
Owen showing off the Scottish military hat.
Alex and Vanessa showing off various hats during the war.
Once again we had to play in the leaves before we headed out.
They had a lot of fun.

We couldn't have asked for a better day. The sun was beating down all day. We were wearing shirts! And to think it was snowing today at Big White.
