Home Reading Program

The daily reading program has been very successful.  Thank you for taking time to read with your child and help them return the book daily.  When your child completes a reading record page they receive a stars (prizes for a completed a chart).  We also have each child set up on Raz Kids.  They can choose to write that in their reading record too!

Happy Valentines Day

Monday, February 14^th is a special day in our classroom.   Students have a Valentine’s Day ‘Monster Mailbag’ with their name on it.  The students are able to ‘mail’ their valentines the week before Valentine’s Day.  Our school believes in including everyone therefore we encourage if you are going to be making valentines that they are made out to every student (not just a select few).  The attached checklist will help your child when printing the student’s names on the valentines at home.  Especially in primary please encourage your child to write their name on the valentines and the name of the person receiving the card.  This is great printing practice but it will probably need several days/weeks to accomplish.

Valentines Day Centres

Valentine’s Day centres will be held on February 14^th (Thursday) in the gym at 9-11:45.  Similar to Halloween, the children will be able to participate in different centres focusing on Math, English, Art, and Crafts.  Families and younger siblings are more than welcome to attend this activity.  This will be a great opportunity to meet other parents, as well as take part in a fun activity for the whole family.  We will need parent volunteers and if you do plan on attending please let Ms. Garrod or Ms. Liebel know.

This year, we will be having a Healthy Party for Valentine’s Day. There will be a list on the office window if you plan to bring anything that way we won’t have doubles or too much. Since it is a healthy party, we encourage fruits, vegetables, sandwiches, etc.  We will also need someone to make the love potion (juice), and others to bring disposable plates.

A valentine movie will be put on after the centres are all done.

Skating

Skating is still going on throughout February.  Skating is Mondays and Tuesday.  Skating lessons takes place from 2:30 until 3:30. The students must wear a helmet (cage highly recommended). Also, if you have a little one hockey pants are recommended to help with all the falls.  Its tough learning how to skate and having some cushion is always nice.  SIDE NOTE: PAC will be discussing replacing skating with yoga on Tuesday.  Please stay tuned.

Wacky Hair/ PJ Day

All students are welcomed to participate in our annual wacky hair and PJ day.  The students are allowed to wear their PJ’s to school for the day and they don’t even need to brush their hair!  However that day we are still skating so please pack additional warm clothes if needed.

Prep Teacher

Mr. Olivieira has started teaching the students on Wednesdays.  The seniors are learning Social Studies and the juniors have begun guided reading, PE, and socials with Mr. O.  We welcome Mr. O as a positive addition to BWCS.

Pink Shirt Day!

We encourage all of you to wear something pink to symbolize that we as a society will not tolerate bullying anywhere on February 27^th, 2013.  As a school, we will be wearing pink and participating in an anti-bullying workshop.  For more information about Pink Shirt Day please visit http://www.pinkshirtday.ca.
