Week 2

This week we did some pretty amazing things.  In Science, we are learning about living things.  We talked about the basic needs of animals.  Then we decided to help some of our local birds by providing lots of bird seed for them to eat this winter.

We then had some fun hanging our bird feeders outside our classroom window.  Funny enough there weren't a lot of low branches so we did the best we could.

^Such a cute shot!

We started our companies/businesses in our YES program and the kids are so excited.  I personally want to buy all of their masterpieces so I better bring lots of money with me when we open our store.

The K/1's are creating art pieces to sell.

This group is starting to come up with lip balm flavours for their company.

These boys are making lotions!

These two are making recycled animals!

I never thought I would say this but we have a classroom pet.  Mealworms!!!!! Yes, those are creepy and crawly... but if you are interested in getting a low maintenance pet.... these are amazing.  No joke!  They require so little care which is a blessing for me.  How cool is it that these kiddos get to see the whole life cycle of a mealworm in a couple of months time.  These critters turn into beetles!  They eat the bran that they live in and drink from the potatoes we are feeding them.  The kids love picking out all the exoskeleton pieces left behind and of course they love to hold them haha.

In writing, we played monster match with the students from Beaverdell Elementary.  This game was so much fun and the kids were hooked.  In fact, they said to each other we didn't even do writing today! haha... little do they know!  If you want to learn how to play the game here is the link.  Otherwise here is a very short clip of the game happening in our classroom.
