Picasso Art

The kids did a great job learning being Picasso for a day.  They learned a bit of background about Picasso (below) and then were shown some examples of a self image Picasso created.  He incorporated a side view and a front view of his face into one image.  These art pieces are on display in our classroom bulletin board.  Come and take a look at them on Monday!

Background Information on Picasso
Pablo Picasso was born in 1881 in Málaga, Spain. His father was an art
teacher. At a young age, Picasso was encouraged to draw and paint.
When he was 19, Picasso went to Paris, France, where he continued to
paint. During this time, a close friend of his died. His friend’s death made him
sad and his art reflected this sadness. He painted with blue colors, showing
sad and lonely people. This was a very depressing time for him. Later, this
period of Picasso’s life became known as his Blue Period.

A few years later, Picasso changed his colors and subjects. He began
painting brighter, happier things such as the clowns from the circus. This
was the beginning of his Rose Period.

Picasso soon changed his style again. He developed a new style called
Cubism and added new texture to his paintings and collages.

Picasso lived to be 92. He is remembered for his paintings, sculptures,
and ceramics. His work and influence are very important to Modern Art.
