Letter Writing Update

In case you haven't been following our blog we have been very busy finishing our Letter Writing Unit.

We have already done:
Pen Pal Writing to Florida and Beaverdell

Letter to the Author (Lesson Plan)
(1) We first discussed who Robert Munsch is.  His official website is amazing and I highly recommend checking it out.
(2) We brought out our Robert Munsch collection and looked through the books.  We mentioned our favourite Munsch books and did a picture walk.
(3) We brainstormed as a class questions we had for Robert Munsch and some unique things about our school.
(4) Finally we bundled up our letters and sent them off to Mr. Munsch.  We hope to hear from him!

Letter to the Tooth Fairy (Lesson Plan)
(1) We read a book on tumblebooks.com called, You Think It's Easy Being a Tooth Fairy.  It is a really great book and it inspired some awesome questions.

(2) We brainstormed as a class some questions we had for the Tooth Fairy.  I also modelled what a letter should look like.  They are pros at the format for writing a letter.

(3) Each student wrote to the Tooth Fairy asking some of the questions they had.  The students will wait for her reply!

Today we received a letter in the mail.  The kids weren't too sure if it was from Robert Munsch or from the Tooth Fairy but either way they were excited.

We all received a letter from the Tooth Fairy.  She also sent back our letters to the Tooth Fairy because she thought they should all go on display.

TO ALL THE TEACHERS READING MY BLOG:  Yes I am crazy!  I put up a bulletin board with four days left of school. haha.

Here is their finished products.  They are all up in the hallway so please come in and take a look at all our hard work.

The whole letter writing unit can be purchased here.
