Treat Others The Way You Want to be Treated

Today is day two of being back at work and I can officially say it's good to be back.  I missed those kiddos!  Yesterday and today and all this week (for that matter) will be similar to our September schedule and that is getting to know new routines, getting to know my expectations, and me getting to know my students and what they need to thrive.

Today we learned about the Golden Rule; Treat others the way you want to be treated.  We read this wonderful book called Do Unto Otters by Laurie Keller.  It is such a cute story and it really gets the kids giggling.

We then didn't waste anytime learning and putting our Golden Rule into practice.  We went over several times what it means to be a good friend and we drew pictures to show how we can treat others.

{I have to apologize in advance.  I lost my school camera and therefore had to use my phone.  The photos are blurry and I am not impressed.}

To you this might look like a very messy and unorganized bulletin board but the students actually put this board together in our classroom.  I think its adorable and shows great independence!

Today we also talked about what makes a "good fit book."  In order to put strong emphasis on what is a good fit we had to try on each others shoes and see that our friends shoe isn't a good fit for me (just like our books).  I love that one of my students has my big brown boot on his foot!  We talked about choosing a book that you can understand and that you can sound out the words.  We talked about the 5 finger rule.  That rule is if you can't understand 5 or more words on one page as you are reading, that book is too hard for you.  We will be working on good fit books for the next little while.

Finally, we like to dance in our classroom and so I found this fun Just Dance video for the students to practice their moves.  If you want to give it a whirl at home I posted it here.

It's only 7:30 pm and I am almost ready for bed.  These kids sure know how to tucker a teacher out!
