I think one of the best perks about my job is that these wonderful children never complain about Monday. When I get to school they are just as excited as I am to start the week. I am so lucky to have such happy children!
These pictures were taken from Friday when we were creating our snowmen. We read a book called Snowballs by Lois Ehlert. She is an amazing artist and author and I LOVE her books. I just ordered a new one actually called Hands and I can't wait to read it to the kids. I recently watched this youtube video of her and I think I like her even more now. We were inspired reading Snowballs to create our own snow "things" using "good stuff." You have to read the book to understand it all. So I brought out my wonderful box of good stuff and the kids got to work. My whole goal this year with the kids is for them to experience and create a relationship with the materials they are working with. I am not interested in the their final products but whether they really understand all the different ways the art materials work. This was an awesome lesson on working with materials and understanding how they can be used to convey what they want in the end.
The students created some pretty amazing snow "things" and they are now on display in our hallway. So you must come in to admire their work!
Last week, we started our FRIENDS program and learning about our feelings. We talked about all the different types of feelings and then acted them out. We made a feelings chart for our classroom. Yes, there are a couple of odd ducks in our chart (I had 2 empty spaces but I think the kids will enjoy Arnold and Finn's pictures with theirs).
We also have our Birthday wall on display now. This is a great way for the students to learn the months of the year and for them to pictorially see when theirs and their friends birthdays are. This is on display in our classroom at the carpet. Funny enough I had no idea how crooked it really was until I took a photo of it. I could say "oh the kids put it up" but that would be a lie haha.
Finally at the end of the day we were getting pretty tired from all this learning that we needed to take some time to dance. These kids formed a line and were having so much fun movin' and groovin'.
Happy Monday Everyone!
