Wednesday

Today I documented how we do "word work" spelling in our classroom.
The Kindergarten sorted and glued their letters and pictures into their books.

Kindergarten practicing our letters Q and P.

The Grade 1 -3 quiz each other on their spelling words (and sort them accordingly).

When they are all done their word work they are able to grab their word search (which is their spelling words).

They can use wiki sticks to spell their words.

They also can play hangman once they are done quizzing each other.

They are even allowed to write on our classroom wall!

We have a mailbox in our classroom.  I was a bit apprehensive putting this in my classroom without a letter writing unit put into place.  Quite quickly I realized I had nothing to worry about.  I left on the top of the mailbox To: and From: and the students have been writing like mad.  Any writing is good writing and they are writing all the time!
I feel like this is a great hook to get my students interested in learning how to write letters.

We are continuing to become powerful readers and we are doing so well.  We started off at 3 minutes and we are now at 10 minutes of complete silent reading.  It's blissful and the students absolutely LOVE IT!  They are so excited to get to 20 minutes.  We came up with a reward, which is a Classroom party.

I am so proud of my little readers!
