Today was an awesome day and we were all very excited to be back at school. We had some special guests visit us from the Boundary. They taught us about traditional drumming and the unique musical instruments Grandpa Greg has created in the past. Loranna was absolutely amazing and every child was so happy and calm playing the drum. She also told this adorable oral story about a Chipmunk. The kids loved it!
We learned why they keep a blanket or piece of cloth on the drum. Also, why drums are never placed face down.
Loranna telling her story about Chippy. I retold this story tonight to Finn and he giggled like mad. I long to be a storyteller like Robert Munsch or Loranna. I think it is such a talent to be able to share a good story. The kids were so interested with no book necessary just her words and a cute little puppet.
I am OBSESSED with Lois Ehlert's books and secretly hope to be her one day (writing children's books about art). She is fantastic and I can't believe I never owned this book before. I couldn't wait to share this with the kids and they equally loved it too.
We were so inspired in the moment by this book that we opened up the Imagination Centre to just create. This month the Seniors and Intermediates are starting Maker's Day proposals and so I am also prepping the littles for a day of making things! We make things everyday but are excited to share a special day of making with the older students. Maker's Day is at the end of the month.
We are always welcoming recycled goods for this centre. If you have any clean, recycled goods that you would like to donate. Don't hesitate to collect them for us!
